I have always thought that the most powerful photographs are those which show movement. They are full of energy and pull the viewer deep into the image. This shot is a fine example - very well spotted and executed.

This week...

This week has been quite an exciting one in my ' photography journey! ' I purchased my first pure ND filter, and can now dabble in the realms of longggg exposure shots! I visited a new place on the coast to try it out, and was fairly happy to come away with this...

It is a 10 stop filter, which lets through less than 0.1% of the available light. To put that into context, a shot which requires a 1 second exposure without the filter would need a 16 minute exposure with the filter on!

I shall be going out tonight to try a few more shots with it. I'm sure I will be posting the results here....

About me

I am a landscape photographer based in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Living just minutes away from one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, it seems natural that my main photographic passion is coastal photography.

Equipment:

-Canon 30D
-Canon 17-85mm EF-S IS f4-5.6
-Canon 50mm f1.8
-Manfrotto 055ProB, Manfrotto Grip Head
-Lee Polariser and Lee ND Grads

My photographs

My coastal images are taken along the County Antrim, Londonderry and Donegal coasts. You can read about my favourite stretch of coastline here... [link]

I aim to produce compositionally powerful, memorable images. As you can see, I am not afraid to make use of the strong colours which so often present themselves in nature. I prefer to shoot through sunrise and sunset - the light for 30 minutes before and after both is soft, dramatic and vibrant.

Although I concentrate on coastal photography, I also enjoy regular landscapes, architecture & urban landscapes, and macro photography. Please follow the link to the right to visit my homepage where you can see a wider variety of my work.

I welcome feedback (good or bad) on any of my photographs, so please don't be afraid to say what you really think!

Image Use

My images may not be used, copied, edited or reproduced in any form, commercially or otherwise, without my written permission.

However, please feel free to link to my work, feature thumbs e.t.c. in your DeviantArt journals.

In the spirit of crediting people for their work, I would like to thank `ClaireJones for her wonderful CSS code which I have used to produce this journal.

A fine example of how depth of field and composition can be used to turn a simple subject into a spectacular image. Don't forget to check out the rest of his gallery!
